2400 Tons Sand juggling Become Wonders of the World

"The sand is too hard. Good to make big cuts, but it is rather difficult to make detailed sculpture, "said Thomas, an artist from the United States, when found in Nature Fantasia, Sentul City Cultural Park, in Babakan Madang, Bogor regency, West Java.

Dutch-born men were working under a large tent on one side of the Nature Fantasia. That day, there are dozens of sand sculpture artists from several countries who also sculpted from raw materials of sand. Height of the statue was varied, from 2 meters to 5 meters.

In Europe and the United States, spelled out the art of sand sculpting is already known for decades, but claimed this was the first organized large scale in Indonesia, and even Southeast Asia.

Winmark is Mendawai Indonesia and the Division of Cultural Park Sentul City is facilitating the artists who joined in the World Sand sculpting Academy (WSSA) for exhibiting in Indonesia.

The plan, there are 42 statues that are displayed on December 18, 2011 until January 28, 2012 it. Most of the present richness of Indonesian culture, like the statue of Borobudur, Prambanan Temple, Garuda Wisnu Kencana, barong dance, until the statue bride Minang and dragons.

However, there are also artists who feature the work of building and world culture, such as the Taj Mahal (India), Sydney Harbour Bridge (Australia), Pyramid (Egypt), and the Tower of London (England).

"We need 2,400 tons of sand. Instead of sea sand, but sand river taken from Cilegon (Bantam). Once completed, this sand will be returned to nature or to the development. The art of sand sculpting it is environmentally friendly, "said Marcel Elsjan of Wipper, Chief Executive Officer of WSSA.

According to Marcel, the exhibition which was held in Indonesia will be the largest in Southeast Asia. This year, they've held a similar exhibition in Singapore and Thailand, but on a small scale.

During the year 2011, they have held 17 times the exhibition. Sand sculpturing has been developed since 20 years ago and began to spread to all corners of the world.

Donie Pasla of Winmark Mendawai Indonesia hopes, introduction of sand sculpturing in Indonesia could attract 5000-7000 visitors per day during the exhibition.

"The media sand is rarely shown in Indonesia. Of course people will be interested. Usually small children making sandcastles on the beach. It is presented on a large scale, "he said.

Through exhibitions and activities will be held regularly, it is hoped can be filtered through sand sculpture artists from Indonesia to join the WSSA. Moreover, Indonesia has great potential because it has a lot of stone and wood sculpture artists.

At least there are other options for a new tourist visits during the coming months, which saw the river of sand "transformed" foreign artists.
